Do It With a Rockstar - Amanda Palmer and the Grand Theft Orchestra

I can’t stop listening to this song. It’s so electric. Do listen and dance your feet off.

Note: while I was listening to this I was watching Ready Steady Cook and one of the chefs was kneading dough with the beat of the song. The host then start dancing because the way the chef was kneading looked like he was dancing passionately. It was a very happy moment for me.

DO YOU LIKE SCIENCE? DO YOU LIKE FICTION? DO YOU LIKE PARTIES? HOW ABOUT SCIENCE FICTION PARTIES?

So, it was my baby sister’s birthday yesterday. She turned 23 so she’s less of a baby and more of a lady. She had a costume party (because that’s just how we do) and the theme was Science Fiction. Jessica dressed up as The Doctor. I dressed up as Space/The Universe. Jessica built a 2D TARDIS. I made a blue velvet cake. So yeah, it was a fucking awesome evening.

Is that red velvet cake … what?! Dang that cake is blue!

Jessica and I felt the need to do a freeze frame High-5. Just acknowledging the wonder of us. I was ACCURATELY transformed into OUTER SPACE using starry fabric, gold and silver star stickers, make-up, shimmer powder, and stick-on jewels. AMAZING! In that moment I swear I was infinite (Get it? GET IT?).

Brandon WAS Daryl Hannah as she was in Blade Runner, so naturally I was all like, “Hey, hey. Come here. Hey. Do androids dream of electric sheep?”. I love how Brandon and I in our posturing are either side of that drama mask thing. Oh, and may I call attention to our fierce make-ups? Yes. Yes I may.

Happy Birthday Jess. You’re a tart and a muh fucker, but I love you and your face.

Neil Gaiman is wicked cool.

I’m almost half way through American Gods and whenever I pause from my reading bouts I can’t help but think Neil Gaiman is simply the most awesome brand of human being. The book so far is so very clever. Gaiman has such a clear writing style, but his words are crafted so well that you don’t find yourself bogged down thinking “oh yes, this is so very Gaiman”. The concept, too is simply marvellous. The man is a genius.

This is why I read.

These pyjama pants are currently my favourite thing. Look at the pretty pattern! They were only $11! But there is one thing about them that makes the oh so special. They have pockets. POCKETS! For some unknown reason the fact these pyjama pants have pockets make them the most amazing object on the face of the earth to me. It’s almost as if I could wear them out in public as real pants, just because they have pockets.

Our cat is amazing. She is intensely insane. We put flea removal stuff on her earlier today. She was a trooper.

This morning I stuck a post-it note that said “I love you” onto my cat. As you can see, she was not amused. Not pictured is her pulling the note off with her teeth and pawing it with moderate disinterest. She is great! xoxo

Jessica and I had an impromptu tea party yesterday after we bought some delightful macarons. It was a lovely afternoon.

If I think about the way I dress I realise I don’t wear that much colour. I accessorise with plenty of popping colour, but most of my standard day to day clothing is a varying array of shades of black, white, grey, and blue. I find this strange as I am someone who adores a rainbow of colour.

I now have a whole bunch of these Archie Grand notebooks. I think they usually retail for between $15 and $20 in Australia, but at my local discount bookshop they were only $1. So now I have many, many of them. Some are destined for other people, potentially as a giant useable version of a birthday card. They’re such brilliantly attractive objects. A delightful combination of colour and wit. I also got myself some more reads to add to my tower of books.

I recently acquired a new phone case. My old one had fallen apart to the point where it was actually useless, so it was time to upgrade, and did I ever. My new one is red and sparkly, just like Dorothy’s ruby slippers. The one I initially fell in love with in the display case was similar, but with crystals instead of the glittery-ness. I asked the cashier how much it was, and he informed me it was $99, as the crystals were Swarovski. I was stunned. Why would anyone want a phone cover encrusted with semi-precious crystals. The whole purpose of a phone cover is to protect your phone when you drop it. Anyway, the one I ended up buying is just as pretty and it sure wasn’t $99.

I recently bought a whole bunch of new make-up that consists of some of the most insanely bright colours, and a love it. Wearing a splash of colour strategically placed on my face makes me feel brighter. It’s also so much fun experimenting with colour combinations and I always enjoy Jessica’s appraisal of my latest experiment. Pretty things are best shared with your muhfucking badass sister.

Pink.

Last week I bought these OCC Lip Tars. I have wanted them forever. By forever I mean weeks, but whatever. I’ve heard so many good things about the product for quite a while so I finally had to get my hands (or should  say lips) on that.

The colours I bought are called Strumpet and, wait for it, Trollop. TROLLOP! I am so in love.

Here I am wearing Trollop. I cannot believe the colour you get from such a tiny amount. It’s even brighter and pinker in real life. Today I was clearly on a pink trip because I bought myself these fantastic new pyjamas for only $6. Cannot believe it. I am on such a life roll …

I am turning into such a girl.

LOL JK. I know femininity isn’t defined by the gender stereotypes that Barbie and early Disney would have one forced into.

Brendan Maclean - Only Only

This song is incredamazing. Brendan Maclean is a delight. I could have downloaded it for free, but I wanted to pay for it. It’s that good.

If you want to do a fantastic Australian musician a solid buy it here. I’m sure he wouldn’t hate you if you got it for free though.

The last two days I have had a house guest. It was one of my oldest friends, Amanda, who really is the perfect person to have stay with you. She’s entertaining, relaxed, gracious, and helpful. We had a wonderful time reminiscing and laughing. Particularly at the videos of the recent batch of farmers for the reality show “Farmer Wants A Wife”, which this year features someone from our hometown. I’ve also known her so long she is basically family.

When I have guests I like to really look after them. I become very nurturing and ply people with cups of tea and food. I love it. They love it. We all love it.

So today I thought I would make something for lunch that was a little bit fun, a little bit easy, and a little bit different. I have had savoury muffins before, but they’ve always been really disappointing. They’ve been bland and usually lacking in the ingredients folded into the batter. When I decided to bake savoury muffins, I decided I would do it right.

I decided to make two different flavours just in case one of them didn’t taste good, but as fate would have it they were both AMAZING. The first lot were semi-dried tomato, olive, feta, basil, oregano, and parmesan. I don’t think I’ve ever tasted anything with olives, feta, and sun dried tomatoes that has been great. The second batch was ham, cheese, and spinach. It was just as yummy. I made a little platter with cream cheese and avocado. I also didn’t want to waste the left over ham and spinach, so onto the platter they too went.

So thus the most successful lunch of all time occurred. Jessica loved them. Amanda loved them. I loved them. They were also gluten free for poor old Jessica. So basically everyone kicked a goal.

Cake.

It was my Mum’s birthday two days ago. Jessica and I ‘collaborated’ on her birthday cake, Jessica baked it and I iced and decorated it. As loving daughters we like to treat our mother each year, especially when we think back to some of the cakes we made when we were children. All in all it was a delicious and pretty success.
